20 лютого виповнилося 120 років від дня народження одного з найвідоміших літераторів українського зарубіжжя Уласа Самчука (20 лютого 1905 ‒ 9 липня 1987). Із цієї нагоди завідувач кафедри іноземних мов з латинською мовою та медичною термінологією Олена Бєляєва, доценти Вікторія Костенко та Ірина Сологор, викладач Зінаїда Таран і студенти першого курсу 2 групи медичного факультету № 1 відвідали виховний захід, присвячений знаменній даті. Захід відбувався на базі ПОУНБ ім. І.П. Котляревського, а його спікером стала кандидат філологічних наук, доцент кафедри педагогіки та суспільних наук Полтавського університету економіки і торгівлі Віта Сарапин.

Присутні, а це були не лише студенти й викладачі ПДМУ, а й інші поціновувачі української літератури, мали змогу ознайомитися з біографією і творчим шляхом Уласа Самчука ‒  письменника, публіциста, громадського діяча, який  залишивглибокийслід у культурному житті  України Літературні та громадські досягнення цього майстра слова, «титана української літератури» в екзилі, визнають на Батьківщині і далеко за її межами, адже Самчук став одним із символів  невтомного пошуку правди та духовного відродження української нації незважаючи на те, що більшу частину свого життя прожив в екзилі

Під час зустрічі слухачі мали змогу зануритися в життя та побут українського села і його жителів, що стали центральною темою одного з найвідоміших творів письменника –автобіографічної трилогії «Волинь». Присутні були зворушені і знайомством зі знаковим твором Самчука ‒ романом «Марія»,  у якому письменник одним із перших підняв болючу для всіх українців тему Голодомору і який  сам автор присвятив «матерям, що загинули голодною смертю на Україні в роках 1932–1933".

Ця тепла пізнавальна зустріч стала можливою завдяки тісній співпраці відділу обслуговування користувачів Полтавської обласної універсальної наукової бібліотеки ім. І. П. Котляревського з кафедрою іноземних мов з латинською мовою та медичною термінологією, а також пані Вітою Сарапин.

Ulas Samchuk ‒ «titan of Ukrainian literature» in exile

February 20 marked the 120th anniversary of the birth of one of the most famous literary figures of the Ukrainian abroad, Ulas Samchuk (February 20, 1905 ‒ July 9, 1987). On this occasion the Head of the Department of Foreign Languages with Latin and Medical Terminology Olena Bieliaieva, Associate Professors Victoria Kostenko and Iryna Sologor, teacher Zinaida Taran and first year students of the 2nd group of the Medical Faculty No. 1 attended an educational event dedicated to the significant date. The event was held on the basis of I.P. Kotlyarevsky National Library, and its speaker was Vita Sarapin, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Pedagogy and Social Sciences of Poltava University of Economics and Trade.

Those present, and it was not only students and teachers of PSMU, but also other connoisseurs of Ukrainian literature, had an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the biography and creative path of Ulas Samchuk ‒ writer, publicist, public figure, who left a deep trace in the cultural life of Ukraine. Literary and public achievements of this master of words, "the titan of Ukrainian literature" in exile, are recognized in the homeland and far beyond its borders, because Samchuk became one of the symbols of tireless search for truth and spiritual revival of the Ukrainian nation despite the fact that he lived most of his life in exile.

During the meeting the audience had the opportunity to plunge into the life and life of the Ukrainian village and its inhabitants, which became the central theme of one of the most famous works of the writer ‒ the autobiographical trilogy «Volyn». The attendees were also touched by acquaintance with Samchuk's landmark work ‒ the novel «Maria», in which the writer was one of the first to raise the painful for all Ukrainians topic of the Holodomor and which the author himself dedicated to «mothers who died a hungry death in Ukraine in 1932‒1933».

This warm informative meeting became possible thanks to the close cooperation of the User Service Department of the Poltava Regional Universal Scientific Library named after I.P. Kotlyarevsky. I.P.
